Appreciating clay as a contact with the past I Meet Kim Eckroth

Appreciating clay as a contact with the past I Meet Kim Eckroth - notPERFECTLINEN EU

Kim Eckroth of Covet & Ginger (@covetandginger) is a potter located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on the shores of Lake Michigan. Her pieces are heavily influenced by the natural world and are glazed in neutral colors-- she relies on the beauty of clay itself.

Clay has been vital to our human existence; it has been important cross-culturally. Kim loves working with something ancestral and a medium seemingly unchanged throughout centuries of use.

Kim sees the subject of ceramics as quite extensive—from clay compositions to chemical glaze formulations to the mere history of the material. This depth of information makes her feel challenged and satiated in her craft.

In her work, she uses neutral glazes to highlight unglazed clay's natural beauty and texture. It's important for her to recognize the skeletal system to which glaze fuses— it's beautiful. Since clay comes in various colors and textures, she tends to rely more heavily on its natural beauty than on a created palette. That makes her work feel more honest to her.

Ceramics is and has always been so integral to her story. She has so many vignettes and memories pertaining to clay, and working with it is wonderfully meditative-- something so necessary in the present technological age.

We are proud that not PERFECT LINEN jumpsuits are her everyday wear at the pottery studio. Nevertheless, she loves that they are beautiful, versatile, easy to work in, and hold up well during her studio tasks.
